Submersibles are typically equipped with advanced technology and safety features to withstand the challenges of deep-sea exploration. However, deep-sea operations are inherently risky due to the extreme conditions and unknown variables involved. While accidents or incidents can occur, it is important to note that I am not aware of any specific incidents involving missing submersibles in the Atlantic Ocean in relation to the Titanic.
In 2019, a joint American-French expedition, organized by Ocean Gate Expeditions and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), used the Limiting Factor to dive to the Titanic wreck site. The purpose of the expedition was to document and assess the current condition of the wreck, as well as create high-resolution 3D images and maps of the site.
The Limiting Factor is designed to withstand the immense pressures of the deep sea and has the ability to carry a crew of up to three people. It features a transparent acrylic sphere that provides a 360-degree view for the occupants, allowing them to observe the wreck and its surroundings.
It's worth noting that there may have been subsequent expeditions or advancements in submersible technology since my last update. Therefore, it would be useful to research the latest news or developments on submersibles used to explore the wreck of the Titanic to obtain the most up-to-date information.
Instances of submarines missing in the ocean are rare, but can occur due to a variety of factors. Some possible reasons for a submersible going missing in the ocean include:
